HISTORY OF DOUGLAS COUNTY FARM BUREAU
Douglas County Farm Bureau has a strong history of leadership and involvement in agricultural issues at the local, state, and national level. The organization began in 1919 to promote agriculture by joining together with neighbors and fellow farmers to make every day that you your family work on the farm, healthier, safer, and more profitable. The very nature of these activities, not only promoted agriculture but brought positive benefits to all farmers and residents of the county.
The organization was first know as the Douglas County Farmers Institute. During a July meeting the Institute decided to from a new group to be called the Douglas County Farmers' Federation. A committee of seven men, assigned to represent different townships in Douglas County, were appointed to begin the work of the organization. During an August meeting the organization was renamed the Douglas County Farm Bureau and it was decided to affiliate with the Illinois Agriculture Association. Thirty eight members were signed by September 5th of that year.
